These drawings began out of necessity when I decided that I need to keep creating and yet, my time is more and more limited. I have two new tiny humans who need constant supervision and attention. I cannot easily secure the studio time that is required for oil painting. There is something about the simplicity of a pencil and paper, and the immediacy of it. I can draw for a minute, put it down, let things literally pile up on it, and come back to it with minimal damage. A pencil is always accessible and the least toxic of all my art supplies, so I don’t feel guilty about creating around my kids. I can pick it up in between diaper changes and eating (and hand washing), and in between tantrums and snuggles. Drawing is the foundation for all other forms of art. These drawings will help me stay creative, keep my sanity, and grow my foundation for the next series on the horizon. All while the kids hang on my arms, knock over my water and grab at my pencil. (Which is totally fine because pencil is erasable.)
